Girls Development Program
Our Girls Development Program is a great way for beginners and experienced players to practice skills and have fun playing hockey with other girls. Station-based games and drills are designed to accelerate development, and the girls learn from a female staff of hockey players and strong role models.
Ages
GDP is open to players of all ages, with skills practices designed for developing players in the 5-14 age range. Full gear is required. If equipment is prohibitive, contact coghockey@gmail for assistance.
When
GDP runs year round, generally with 4-6 practices per session.
Where
Practice locations and times are subject to seasonal ice availability.
Practices
GDP practices are held once per week. We try to reserve ice times that don't conflict with most other hockey activities, and our 50 min practices are perfect for optimal skill development.
Frequently Asked Questions
If my daughter is registered in the Blue Jackets Learn to Play program, can she participate in GDP?
Absolutely! GDP is a great complement to the Learn to Play curriculum, and you just might see some coaches you recognize!
My daughter is brand new to hockey and skating. Is GDP for her?
GDP participants must be able to stand up and move around the ice independently. A basic skating class is a great prerequisite.
My niece is a 6 year old beginner. Will she be competing against older, bigger girls?
No, we divide the players by relative skill and age to create groups of like ability. Practices develop individual skills that will challenge her in a safe environment.
